Was the Labour Party’s Calder Valley selection fiddled?

Questions are being asked by some members of the Calder Valley Labour Party over the selection of Cherie Blair’s stepmother, Stephanie Booth, as their parliamentary candidate.

In an article in the Yorkshire Post members of the Calder branch of the Labour Party are alleging postal voting irregularities including that Mrs. Booth’s supporters directly helped party members to fill in their postal voting papers.

Of the votes 95 cast for Mrs. Booth in the selection, 73 were postal votes.

Of the 52 votes cast for Cllr. Susan Press, 17 were postal votes.

The other votes were made in person at the hustings on April 9th.

Effectively; the selection of Steph Booth was a done deal before the hustings began.

It could be that Mrs. Booth fought a better all-round campaign or, as suggested by some local Labour Party members, it could be a little more sinister.

This latest episode comes on the back of the Labour Party NEC’s ousting of the previous Labour candidate, Janet Oosthuysen, for receiving a police caution for scratching an ex-partner’s car. Janet narrowly beat Steph Booth by a handful of votes last July.

This could well be a space that needs to be watched.

I can’t believe the Tod Rag totally ignoring it.
She is the mother in law of one of the most hated women in the country and yet they are attempting to elect her as MY MP.
She has already brought sleaze to Calderdale.
For GODS sake open your eyes.

    From the Hebden Bridge Times.

“Mrs Booth came within five votes of being selected last summer only beaten into second place by Janet Oosthuysen. But the selection process had to run again as Ms Oosthuysen failed to get the endorsement of the Labour Party’s NEC after it was revealed she had a police caution for damaging her ex-partner’s car.”

Big City sleaze comes to Calderdale.
You are being played like a cheap piano. Open your eyes.

I suspect it might appear in next week’s TN and HBT as they will be behind the weekly news cycle if a story breaks on a Wednesday/Thursday. More so after a Easter Bank Holiday.

Even so, it certainly seems that Labour have been dining on albatross in the Calder Valley of late.

Yes but whatever we think of the Labour party and the fact that Steph Booth is the Mother in Law of the most hated man in Britain and it was a “fixed” sleezy vote people in glasses houses shouldn’t throw stones.

What about your own PPC and her partner: UCVR, Wobbly Houses, Heritage Centres and Architects, bungled consultations and that appalling letter to the Guardian, badly done Ms Myers.

May I suggest that a dignified silence on some fronts and a clear statement of policies on another wins more votes.

Personally I shan’t be voting for any of you, least of all a candidate who crows over other peoples misfortunes.
